How to install and configure the BuddyPress for WordPress


The easiest way to install BuddyPress is to start with a new installation of WordPress and use the default template that comes with the plugin and customize it using a child theme . However, you can add BuddyPress to a website or blog that has already using the BuddyPress template pack . However , this tutorial will teach you to only install and configure a new BuddyPress WordPress installation .
Once you have installed WordPress , go to the admin panel and go to “Plugins ” section > ” Add New” , type ” BuddyPress ” in the search box and click “Search Plugins” . Click the ” Install Now ” next to the BuddyPress plugin .
On the next screen, enter your FTP details and click ” Proceed ” and the plugin will be installed on your server. Once the task is completed, be sure to click “Activate Plug-in ” .
The next thing to do is to activate the template available , so go in the ” Appearance” > “Templates ” and activate the default template BuddyPress .

After activating the plugin and template , you will see a new option in your WordPress menu called ” BuddyPress ” . This new section has 4 options within it : General Settings , Component Setup , Forums Setup and also the Profile Setup Field . Let’s see how to configure each of them properly.

Default User Avatar: Choose which standard gravatars style you want for your social network.


The next section is the “Component Setup” , and is basically where you can choose more parts of BuddyPress you want to use on your new site
Activity Streams : It allows its users to update their activities from anywhere on the site .
bbPress Forums : Enables support for bbPress forums within your BuddyPress groups.
Friends : Allow your users to friendly connections with each other.
Groups: It allows its users to create , join and participate in groups.
Private Messaging: Enables users to send private messages to each other .
Extended Profiles : Enables custom profiles and avatars on the site .
If enabled the discussion forums in the table above , then you will have to activate the next frame. Click on ” Setup a all new (bbPress Installation) also Depending on the permissions on your files , you will see the following screen:
If you see this screen , then copy and paste all the code that appears in front of a new file , and save it with the bb- config.php name, and then upload it to the root of your WordPress server by FTP. After that, your forums will be installed and ready to use .
This section will be unique to your entire site , depending on which niche market where you will create your social network or type of users you want to attract. This option allows you to set up multiple custom fields for the profiles of members of its users . For example , if your social network has the objective of web designers you can insert custom fields ( custom fields ) to : Employment, URL Porfolio About , Favorite Sites , URL, Linkedin , etc.
Click “Add New Field ” and will set up a custom field profile. For this tutorial , we will introduce a field for the profile on LinkedIn, but you can create to Facebook, Twitter and others who wish .
